This Privacy Policy explains how The Novelist’s Stack (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you visit thenoveliststack.com (the “Site”) or subscribe to our email list. The Site is operated from New Zealand by Jerrod Montemayor.
Information we collect
- Information you give us. When you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address (and your name, if you provide it). If you contact us, we collect whatever information you include in your message.
- Information collected automatically. We do not currently use third-party analytics such as Google Analytics. However, our hosting provider (WordPress.com / Automattic) automatically logs basic technical information — such as your IP address, browser type, device, referring page, and the pages you view — for security and aggregate statistics.
- Cookies. The Site and the third parties we work with may set cookies (see “Cookies and tracking” below).
How we use your information
- To send you the newsletter, resources, and free guides you signed up for.
- To respond to your questions or requests.
- To operate, secure, and improve the Site and its content.
- To comply with our legal obligations.
If you are in the EEA or UK, our lawful bases for processing are your consent (for marketing emails, which you can withdraw at any time), our legitimate interests (in running and securing the Site), and legal obligation where applicable. We do not sell your personal information.
Email marketing
We use Kit (formerly ConvertKit) to manage our email list and send our newsletter. When you subscribe, your details are stored and processed by Kit on our behalf under their privacy terms. Every email includes a one-click unsubscribe link, and you can opt out at any time.
Cookies and tracking
Cookies are small files stored on your device. This Site may use cookies for basic functionality, and third parties we link to — including affiliate programs (such as Sudowrite, Kit, and others) — may set their own cookies to attribute referrals when you click an affiliate link. Our hosting provider may also set cookies. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though some parts of the Site may not work as intended.
Affiliate links
This Site contains affiliate links. If you click one and sign up or buy, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you — see our Affiliate Disclosure. When you click an affiliate link, the destination service may record that the referral came from us and may process your information under its own privacy policy.
How we share your information
We do not sell or rent your personal information. We share it only with:
- Service providers who help us run the Site — principally Kit (email) and WordPress.com / Automattic (hosting) — who process data on our behalf.
- Authorities or others where required by law, or to protect our rights, safety, or property.
International data transfers
We are based in New Zealand, and our service providers may store and process data in other countries, including the United States. Where your information is transferred internationally, we rely on those providers’ safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) to protect it.
Data retention
We keep your email-subscription data for as long as you remain subscribed. If you unsubscribe or ask us to delete your data, we will remove it from our active list, except where we need to retain limited information to comply with legal obligations.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information; to restrict or object to certain processing; and to withdraw consent or unsubscribe at any time. Residents of the EEA/UK have these rights under the GDPR; California residents have rights under the CCPA/CPRA (including the right to know and delete, and to opt out of “sale” — note we do not sell your data); and New Zealand residents have rights under the Privacy Act 2020. Children’s privacy
This Site is intended for adults and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Third-party links
The Site links to other websites and tools we don’t control. We’re not responsible for their content or privacy practices, and we encourage you to read the privacy policy of any site you visit.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll revise the “last updated” date at the top. Significant changes may be announced on the Site or by email.
